The RecordXavier named Chris Mack, a two-time team captain for the Musketeers’ basketball team in the early 1990s, as the school’s new head coach. Mack replaces Sean Miller, who recently left to take the head coaching post at Arizona. Mack is a 1992 Xavier graduate with a degree in communication arts. He is the fifth Xavier alumnus out of 17 all-time head coaches to lead the program (the first since Don Ruberg spent four seasons at the helm from 1963-67). Mack was Xavier’s director of basketball operations from 1999-2001 under the late former head coach Skip Prosser. Mack spent three seasons as an assistant coach at Wake Forest under Prosser from 2001-04. He returned to Xavier in 2004 as an assistant coach under Miller.

Men’s and women’s soccer – C.W. Post hired Andreas Lindberg as its head men’s soccer coach. Lindberg, who becomes the 12th head coach in the program's history, takes over for Dieter Ficken, who retired after 29 years of service. Lindberg previously served as head coach of the men’s soccer program at LIU-Southampton from 2002-05.
Men’s and women’s volleyball – Casey R. Dale, who played on four national championship teams at Juniata, has been named head women’s volleyball coach at Transylvania. Dale is a former assistant women’s volleyball coach at Washington and Lee. He also served as student assistant for the women’s team at Juniata.

Former California, Utah State and Arizona State head football coach Bruce Snyder died April 13 after a 10-month battle with cancer. He was 69. Snyder compiled a 29-24-4 record in five years at California, leading the Bears to a pair of bowl berths in the process. He also coached for nine seasons at Arizona State, where he went 58-47 from 1992-2000. He was voted Pacific-10 coach of the year and national coach of the year in 1996 when he led the Sun Devils to an 11-0 regular-season record, a Pacific-10 title and berth in the Rose Bowl. A collegiate coach for 20 years, Snyder also coached Utah State from 1976-82 and had a 126-106-5 (.542) overall record.
