The RecordCathy Inglese has been named head women’s basketball coach at Rhode Island. Inglese owns a 393-253 (.608) career coaching record in 22 seasons as a head coach, most recently at Boston College from 1993-2008, where she guided the Eagles to seven NCAA tournament appearances. Under her direction, the Eagles made three trips to the NCAA Sweet 16 (2003, 2004 and 2006) and posted a program-high national ranking of No. 14 (USA Today) at the end of the 2003-04 season.

Coaches
Men’s basketball – Former New York Knicks coach Isiah Thomas is the new men’s coach at Florida International. Thomas replaces Sergio Rouco, who was fired Monday after five straight losing seasons, including a 13-20 campaign this season … Kevin Broderick, a Nazareth alumnus and head coach at Oswego State for the past 13 seasons, has been named head men’s basketball coach at Nazareth. Broderick, a 1989 graduate, replaces Mike Daley, who stepped down last month after compiling a 318-284 record in 23 seasons.
Women’s basketball assistants – Purdue named Ukari Figgs as an assistant. Figgs was named the most outstanding player in the 1999 Women’s Final Four when Purdue won the championship game over Duke.
Men’s and women’s soccer assistants – Western Michigan named Ben Pirmann as an assistant men’s soccer coach … Timothy Finklea was selected as an assistant women’s soccer coach at Trinity (District of Columbia).
Women’s volleyball – Trinity (District of Columbia) announced Kristi Grant as the school’s new women’s volleyball coach. Grant is a former student-athlete at Elon.
Staff
Assistant athletic trainer – Erica Chung has been hired as an assistant athletic trainer at Youngstown State. Chung previously worked as an assistant athletic trainer at Kennesaw State.
Deaths
Roland Vandell, who played ice hockey at St. Cloud State from 1933-35 and later coached the Huskies from 1946-53, died April 11 in St. Augusta, Minnesota. In 2007, Vandell established the Roland A. Vandell Family Endowed Scholarship for men’s hockey at the university.
