Boston College has extended AD Gene DeFilippo’s contract through May 2014. In announcing the extension, Boston College President William P. Leahy said DeFilippo “has provided tremendous leadership and vision to Boston College’s athletics program, and he is also a great ambassador for our university. I am pleased that he will be with us for at least another five years.” DeFilippo served as director of athletics at Villanova from 1993-97 before coming to Boston College. He also has worked in athletics administration at Kentucky, South Carolina-Spartanburg and Vanderbilt. He also coached football at Vanderbilt, Youngstown State and Tennessee. A 1973 graduate of Springfield, DeFilippo earned a master’s degree in educational administration from Tennessee in 1974.

Coaches

Men’s basketball – Former Georgia Southern men’s basketball student-athlete Charlton Young has been selected as the head coach of his alma mater. Young replaces Jeff Price, who resigned March 30 after 10 seasons. Young recently completed his fourth year as an assistant coach at Georgia Tech after stops at Auburn (twice), Jacksonville, Northeastern and Chattanooga.

Men’s basketball assistants – Arizona appointed James Whitford and Emanuel Richardson as assistant men’s basketball coaches … High Point named Kevin Easley as an assistant coach.

Women’s volleyballPati Rolf has been appointed head women’s volleyball coach at East Carolina. Rolf has 21 years of head coaching experience, the last seven as head coach at Marquette. She is one of only 45 active coaches at the Division I level with at least 400 career wins.

MarketingAlamar Cavada has been named the marketing director at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi after having served as the interim director since October 2008.
