The RecordCentral Michigan announced an agreement in principle on a one-year extension to the contract of head football coach Butch Jones. Jones’ contract will now last through the 2013 season. He signed a five-year deal following the 2007 season. Jones is the first coach in school history to lead Central Michigan to back-to-back bowl games, and he is just the fifth coach in Mid-American Conference history to guide a team to a bowl game in both of his first two seasons. In 2007, he became the ninth coach in conference history to win a conference championship in his first season.

Women’s basketball – Vassar named Summer Quesenberry women’s interim basketball coach.
Football assistants -- Jim Hofher, a veteran of 28 seasons as a head coach and assistant at both NCAA Division I levels of college football, has been named offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Delaware.
Men’s and women’s volleyball – Stonehill announced the resignation of women's volleyball coach Eric Snyder.
Deaths
Senon “Baldy’’ Castillo, one of the most respected coaches in his profession and the head coach of the Arizona State University track and field program for nearly three decades, passed away January 31. Castillo was 90.
