The RecordTwo former head coaches, Carl Torbush of North Carolina and Chuck Long of San Diego State, joined the staff at Kansas as defensive and offensive coordinators, respectively. Torbush, who coordinated the defense at Mississippi State last season and also has been on staffs at Texas A&M, Alabama and Mississippi, also has been a head coach at Louisiana Tech. Long was head coach at San Diego State from 2006 to 2008 and is a former offensive coordinator at Oklahoma.

Athletics director – Greg Garber appointed interim AD at Coker, where he has been serving since September as interim vice president for business operations.
Coaches
Men’s basketball – Glen Miller dismissed in his fourth season at Pennsylvania. The school named assistant coach Jerome Allen, who led the Quakers to three Ivy League titles from 1993 to 1995 as a player, as interim head coach.
Football – Jim Harbaugh signed a three-year contract extension through 2014 at Stanford … Danny Barrett named interim head coach at Buffalo, replacing Turner Gill, who was named head coach at Kansas.
Football assistants – Zach Azzanni named receivers coach at Florida … Illinois will not renew the contracts of offensive coordinator/tight ends coach Mike Schultz, quarterbacks coach Kurt Beathard, receivers coach Jim Pry and special teams coordinator Mike Woodford … Billy Gonzales named wide receivers coach and passing game coordinator at LSU … Garrick McGee named offensive coordinator at Arkansas.
Soccer – Ryan Sander selected as head women’s coach at Simpson, replacing Greg Velasquez, who coached the team on an interim basis this year. Sander previously coached at Waukee High School in Iowa.
Volleyball – Sue Forrey named head women’s coach at Bethany Lutheran, where she was an assistant last season. She replaces Mike Walters.
Wrestling – Drew Pariano promoted to head coach at Northwestern, where previous head coach Tim Cysewski will remain on the staff as an assistant. Pariano moves into the new role after five seasons on the staff.
Conferences
Matthew Banker hired as assistant commissioner for institutional services at the Ohio Valley Conference. Banker, a former NCAA membership services and eligibility services administrator, served most recently as assistant dean for student affairs at the Indiana University School of Law.
Deaths
George E. Hill, a former head men’s basketball coach at The Citadel, Coast Guard and Oklahoma Panhandle State, died December 11 in Parsons, Kansas. He also had served as an assistant coach at Illinois and Tennessee. Hill was 78.
