Minnesota State Moorhead named Kris Nelson as the ninth head wrestling coach in the program’s 50-year history. He succeeds Keenan Spiess, who resigned. Nelson joins the Dragon program from North Dakota State, where he has been a part of part of three conference championship teams and a national championship team. He also was a standout wrestler for Bison, earning an NCAA championship in 2000 and two conference championships.  

Other transactions

Associate director of athleticsSamantha K. Huge was hired as senior associate athletics director at Delaware. Huge, currently a member of the NCAA Committee on Academic Performance, has been associate athletics director for compliance at Georgetown for the past three years.

Baseball – Indiana State head baseball coach Lindsay Meggs was chosen for the same position at Washington. The two-time Missouri Valley Conference Coach of the Year has been in charge of the Sycamore program in 2006 after guiding Chico State to two NCAA Division II national championships and an overall record of 538-228-4 in 13 seasons.

Men’s basketball – St. Edward’s appointed Andre Cook as head basketball coach. Cook has been head basketball coach at Hudson Valley (New York) Community College since 2004.

Men’s and women’s cross countryLaura Pierce was promoted to head men’s and women’s cross country coach at Millikin and will continue as an assistant track and field coach working primarily with the distance runners. Pierce, who came to Millikin in 2008, replaces Peter Seal, who resigned … Metro State elevated assistant cross country and track coach Sean Nesbitt to interim head cross country coach to replace Pete Julian, who resigned to accept a position at Washington State. Nesbitt, along with Julian, helped launch the cross country program in 2005 and the track program a year later … Shawn Green was named as head men’s cross country and track and field coach at Southern Connecticut State. For the past nine years, Green has been in charge of the men’s and women’s programs at Quinnipiac, where under his leadership, the school captured four consecutive Northeast Conference women’s cross country titles (2005-08) and four men’s cross country league titles in five years (2004, 2006-08).

Football assistantJake Willingham tapped as running backs coach at Stephen F. Austin.

Softball assistant – Angelo State promoted Katie Naumoff to assistant coach. Naumoff, who spent the past two seasons as a graduate assistant for the Rambelles, replaces Claudia Lopez.  

Men’s and women’s tennisErin Felber was hired as head women’s tennis coach at Alverno. In addition to working as head tennis pro at Mequon Elite Fitness and Racquet Club for the past four years, she also has coached boys’ and girls’ tennis at Nicolet (Wisconsin) High School since 2005 … Megan Bradley, most recently a volunteer assistant coach at Miami (Florida) during the 2008-09 season, has been named head women’s tennis coach at Princeton.

Sports information – Eastern Oregon hired Barrett Henderson as sports information/marketing director.

Deaths

Former Richmond football coach and athletics director Frank Jones died July 25. He was 90. Jones, who came to Richmond from Mississippi State in 1966, guided the Spiders to a 44-38 mark, the program’s first bowl appearance and three Southern Conference championships during his tenure from 1966 to 1973. A three-time conference coach of the year, he served as the school’s athletics director from 1967-74.
