Chase Hodges, who led the Drake men’s tennis program to NCAA tournament appearances in three of the last four years, was chosen as head men’s tennis coach at Georgia State. Hodges, who guided the Bulldogs to a Missouri Valley regular season or tournament title each of his four years, owns a career record of 142-44 in eight seasons as a head coach, including stops at UNC Asheville and Longwood.

Other transactions

Athletics directorMike Hamrick, director of athletics at the UNLV for the past six years, was named to the same position at his alma mater, Marshall. Hamrick, who replaces the retired Bob Marcum, previously has been athletics director at East Carolina and Arkansas-Little Rock.

Baseball – Belmont Abbey appointed Scott Brickman as head coach. Brickman joins the Crusaders program after two seasons as assistant coach/pitching coach at Northern Iowa.

Women’s basketball assistant – Drake chose former Bulldog women's basketball standout Linda Sayavongchanh as an assistant coach. Sayavongchanh replaces Emilee Gusso, who became an assistant coach at South Dakota State.

Men’s and women’s cross country assistantJackie Kirby was tabbed as an assistant men’s and women’s cross country and track and field coach at Mount Olive. Kirby was a two-time NCAA Division III women’s cross country and track and field national championships qualifier at Keystone, where she captured three individual conference championships and led the program to team championships in 2007 and 2008.

Men’s and women’s golf – Charleston Southern added Kory Thompson as head women’s golf coach.  Thompson, who spent time on the LPGA tour as a caddie for Kristy McPherson, was also a member of South Carolina’s 2002 Southeastern Conference championship team.

Men’s and women’s lacrosseBrian Voelker was hired as head men’s lacrosse coach at Drexel. For the past seven seasons, he has been in charge of the program at Pennsylvania, where he led the Quakers to two NCAA tournament berths during his tenure … Franklin Pierce named Rick Senatore as head men’s lacrosse coach and head women’s cross country coach. Senatore joins the Ravens from Saint Anselm, where he posted a 22-22 record overall in three years as head men’s lacrosse coach.

SoftballWhitney Gelin was elevated to head softball coach at Greensboro after two years as an assistant coach. Gelin takes over for Kama Tucker, who resigned to assume responsibilities as pitching coach at James Madison.

Men’s and women’s water polo – Carthage chose Sarah Denny as head women’s water polo coach. Denny replaces Tom Carroll, who resigned. Denny served as an assistant water polo coach at Mundelein (Illinois) High School from 2006 to 2009. 

Conferences

The ECAC appointed Yale’s Tim Ford to the league’s board of directors.  Ford, whose term will extend through October 2011, is a senior associate athletics director at Yale.
