Kyle Witt named head women’s coach at Loyola Marymount, which for the first time is appointing head coaches for both the men’s and women’s teams. John Loughran, who has coached both programs for the past 12 years, continues to serve as head men’s coach. Witt, who has been on the water polo staff at the school for the past two years (serving last season as associate head coach), played for Loughran from 1998 to 2001, and is former head men’s and women’s coach at Gannon.

Director of athletics – Sam Goodwin announced his retirement at Henderson State, effective March 1, 2010. The former Reddies football all-American and former head football coach at Southern Arkansas and Northwestern State returned to his alma mater as AD in 2000.

Assistant athletics director – Jennifer Vining-Smith appointed assistant AD for compliance at Notre Dame. She previously was assistant compliance director for the Big Ten Conference

Men’s basketball assistants – Michael Brown and Mark Graupe hired as assistant coaches at Dartmouth. Brown previously served at Idaho State and Graupe was on the staff last season at Colorado State … Former Loyola (Maryland) and Michigan head coach Brian Ellerbe named at George Washington.

Women’s basketball assistants – Mike Geary joined the staff at Detroit. He was head coach for 17 seasons at Northern Michigan before serving from 2005 to 2007 as assistant coach at Ball State … Marla Brumfield added to the staff at Clemson. She was an all-American at Rice and played in the Women’s National Basketball Association … Lindsay Smith named assistant coach at James Madison.

Equestrian – Katelyn Medeiros resigned as head coach at Massachusetts-Dartmouth.

Football assistants – Tucker Pruitt named offensive assistant/quarterbacks and Chris Covington named student assistant defensive coach at Georgia Southern. Pruitt was a member of Valdosta State’s 2007 Division II championship team.

Softball – Mike Larabee selected as head coach at Arkansas after five seasons at Wright State, where he led teams to 2007 and 2008 appearances in the Division I Softball Championship.

Tennis – Brian Drummond named head women’s coach at Colorado State-Pueblo. The former ThunderWolves assistant replaces Tom Durham, who will continue as head men’s coach … Rachel Gale promoted from assistant to head women’s coach at Meredith.

Volleyball – Rob Mullowney hired as head men’s coach at Wentworth Institute after one season as an assistant at Newbury. He also has been on the staff at Elms … Jessica Sabath named assistant women’s coach at High Point.

Athletic trainer – Matt Summers, former senior athletic trainer at Kentucky, named head football athletic trainer at Arkansas.
