The RecordGary Fifield returned as head women’s basketball coach at Southern Maine. He replaces interim coach Mike McDevitt, who decided to return as head coach at St. Joseph’s (Maine), where he coached from 1987 to 2003. Fifield retired as the Huskies’ coach after guiding the team to a 541-86 record and three Division III championship-game appearances during 21 seasons. McDevitt compiled 326 victories and a .736 winning percentage at St. Joseph’s before leaving to serve as an assistant to Fifield beginning in 2003.

Directors of athletics – Kyle Moats selected at Missouri State, effective July 1. He currently is associate AD for national marketing at Louisville … Darren Hamilton named at Livingstone after serving for the past year as AD at Alcorn State.
Coaches
Men’s basketball assistants – Billy Garrett joined the staff as assistant coach at DePaul after serving as associate head coach at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi … Dave Wojcik named assistant coach at Wake Forest.
Women’s basketball – Dana Takahara-Dias selected as head coach at Hawaii.
Cross country – Thomas Fisher selected to coach the new men’s and women’s teams at St. Mary’s (Maryland).
Skiing – Willi Steinrotter named Alpine coach at St. Lawrence.
Soccer – Joe Pusateri joined the staff at Lycoming, his alma mater, as assistant men’s coach.
Softball – Jamie Pinkerton resigned at Arkansas.
Conferences
Mike Marcil announced he will step down June 30 as commissioner of the Sunshine State Conference to become vice president of development at Creighton Prep High School in Omaha, Nebraska, his hometown. Marcil also served as commissioner of the North Central Intercollegiate Athletic Conference before accepting the Sunshine State post, and is a former NCAA staff member … Violet Palmer named coordinator of West Coast Conference women’s basketball officials … Louisiana College President Joe Aguillard will serve as president of the American Southwest Conference during 2009-10, succeeding Tom Cedel of Concordia University Texas, who remains on the league’s executive council as past president. Texas Lutheran President Ann M. Svennungsen will serve as vice president.
