Melinda Campbell was chosen as head women’s basketball coach at Meredith.  Campbell, who as head tennis coach from 1992-2000 led the school to its first NCAA tournament berth, has been a faculty member at the college for the past 17 years. She will continue to serve as a professor of exercise and sports science in addition to her basketball coaching duties. Campbell succeeds David Zinn, who stepped down assume responsibilities as an assistant athletics coordinator at Meredith.

Coaches

Men’s and women’s cross countryChas Davis was tabbed as head men’s and women’s cross country coach at Creighton. For past year, Davis has been a volunteer women’s assistant cross country and track and field coach at Oregon State. He replaces John Wissler, who resigned after six seasons.

Softball – Detroit Mercy head coach Bob Wilkerson resigned after 13 seasons with the Titans. Wilkerson, who took over the program in 1996 after a successful tenure at the high-school level, was the 2002 and 2005 Horizon coach of the year.

Men’s and women’s swimming and diving – Knox added Jonathan Powers as head coach. Currently an assistant professor of economics at school and a member of the faculty since 2000, Powers has been in charge of the club water polo team.

Men’s tennis – Oklahoma’s Paul Lockwood announced his retirement as head coach at Oklahoma. Lockwood, who has been the Sooners head men's coach since 1988, will take on a coordinating role in the operation of the recently-opened Gregg Wadley Tennis Pavilion on university’s campus. A two-time Big 12 Coach of the Year, he was 325-211 in 22 seasons at the helm.

Men’s water polo – St. Francis (New York) hired Larry Naeve as head coach. He succeeds Carl Quigley, who resigned after 34 years in charge of the program. Naeve's coaching experience includes two stints as head coach at La Canada (California) High School from 1973-79 and 1995-2007.

Men’s water polo assistantIgor Samardzija was appointed as an assistant at St. Francis (New York). Samardzija has coached the men's and women's club teams at Columbia, leading both squads to three state titles and a national championship.

Deaths

Hampton Jordan, a longtime coach and administrator at Claflin, died in April. Jordan had been director of student services and head softball coach at the school since 1988.
