Delaware named Bernard Muir as director of athletics and recreation services. Muir, who will begin his duties July 6, has been the athletics director at Georgetown since 2005. He previously served as deputy director of athletics/administration and facilities (2004-05), senior associate athletics director for student welfare and development (2003-04) and associate athletics director for student welfare and development (2000-03) at Notre Dame. Muir also was a member of the Division I men’s basketball staff at the NCAA national office from 1992-2000. He succeeds Edgar N. Johnson.

Coaches

Men’s basketball – Southern Indiana head coach Rick Herdes resigned, effective immediately, after eight seasons in charge of the program.

Women’s basketball – Wellesley hired Jennifer Kroll as head coach to succeed Kathy Hagerstrom, who retired after 18 years. Kroll comes to Wellesley after a successful five-year stint at St. Lawrence University where she guided the Saints to an impressive 101-35 mark during her tenure.

Football – Carroll added John Anderson as linebackers coach, Tim Keane as defensive ends coach, Kevin Hyland as wide receivers coach and Brent Allen as tight ends and halfbacks coach. Anderson was a linebacker in the National Football League for 12 seasons before retiring in 1989 and has been teaching Earth Science to middle school students at Brookfield Academy (Wisconsin) for the past 11 years. Keane, a four-year letter-winner in football at Carroll, was defensive ends and outside linebackers coach at Brookfield Central (Wisconsin) High School last season. For the past three years, Hyland has been an assistant coach at Lakewood (Ohio) High School and also spent one year as an assistant at Dordt. Allen, a 2007 Wisconsin-Whitewater graduate, was a four-year starting center for the Warhawks and winner of the Remington Award, given to the nation's best Division III center.

Women’s soccer Martin Desmarais was chosen as head coach at MIT after most recently serving as an assistant at Framingham State.
