Jeff Schebler has added Division III’s football career kick scoring mark to a shelf full of records he has compiled at Wisconsin-Whitewater, and now appears set to push that mark well beyond 400 points.

Schebler, who has kicked for the Warhawks in each of its last three Amos Alonzo Stagg Bowl appearances, last Saturday topped the two-year-old kick scoring record set by Mount Union’s Mike Zimmerman. The eight points he scored on a field goal and five point-after conversions boosted his career mark to 390 points with four regular-season games to go, plus the possibility once again for five Division III Football Championship appearances.

He matched Zimmerman’s mark of 383 career points scored from 2005 through 2007 on the first point-after conversion of Wisconsin-Whitewater’s 38-3 victory over Wisconsin-Stout, then broke the record after a touchdown early in the second quarter.

Schebler, who has been writing a blog this season for the Web site Inside Wisconsin Sports, called the record “quite an honor to have” in this week’s entry.

“A lot of what I have done through the years goes out to my teammates, because without them, this accomplishment would never have even had a chance to happen,” he wrote. “The offense has been able to put the ball in the end zone, and my snapper and holder have always done a great job since I have been here.”

Schebler also holds Division III career marks for most career field goals attempted and made and highest field-goal percentage.

As a sophomore, he contributed seven points in the Warhawks’ 2007 Division III championship-game victory over Mount Union – one of the two times he and Zimmerman kicked against each other in the Stagg Bowl. He has totaled 25 points through his three Stagg Bowl appearances, including three field goals during the Warhawks’ loss to Mount Union in his freshman year.

With the 400-point mark in his sights, Schebler also has a chance to top the career scoring records held by kickers in the NCAA’s other divisions.

Louisville’s Art Carmody holds the record in the Division I Football Bowl Subdivision with 433 points from 2004 to 2007, while North Dakota’s Jeff Glas holds the Division II mark with 420 points from 2002 to 2005 and Montana’s Dan Carpenter has the Division I Football Championship Subdivision record with 407 points from 2004 to 2007.

Schebler is among finalists this year for the inaugural Fred Mitchell Award for place kickers in Division II and III.
