Soccer officials honor Neumann for sportsmanshipThe Neumann women’s soccer team has received the annual Fair Play Award from an organization that assigns game officials in the Philadelphia area.
The Knights, who played their second consecutive season without receiving a yellow or red card, were selected from men’s and women’s teams at 35 colleges by the Eastern Pennsylvania and District Intercollegiate Soccer Officials Association.
The organization annually selects a college team and a high school team from nominees for the honor. The award recognizes fair play, sportsmanship and commitment to the spirit of the game, based on observation of teams by the organization’s officials.
Neumann, coached by Jeremy Brodovsky, was one of seven teams that won the National Soccer Coaches Association Gold Award last year for playing the 2008 season without being carded by an official.
The team makes completion of a season without a red or yellow card one of its goals at the beginning of a season. This year’s squad finished with an 8-9-1 record, tying its mark for most victories in a season.
