SAAC selects Goodman as new chairIsaiah Goodman, a basketball student-athlete at Washington and Lee, has been selected by the 24-member Division III Student-Athlete Advisory Committee to serve as its chair.
Goodman, who was elected for the position during the SAAC’s meetings at the recent NCAA Convention, joined the committee in 2007 as a representative of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference. He succeeds Christine Lewis of Vassar in the post.
The Division III SAAC plays a key role in the division’s governance, offering input on rules, regulations and policies that impact student-athletes and providing insight into the student-athlete experience. It has two voting members on the Division III Management Council and also is represented on Division III committees.
The SAAC’s stated mission is to enhance the total student-athlete experience by promoting opportunity for all student-athletes, protecting student-athlete welfare, and fostering a positive student-athlete image, while maintaining the tenets of the Division III philosophy.
Goodman is in his senior year at Washington and Lee, where he is basketball captain and plays as point guard. He has played in every game since the beginning of the 2006-07 season and has started every game during his junior and senior seasons.
On campus, he initiated the Captains Council, created to develop and improve the leadership skills of captains of varsity teams, and has served as a member of Washington and Lee Student Consulting, a student-managed organization that provides consulting services for profit and nonprofit business and community organizations.
He also serves as assistant head student dorm counselor and has served as an officer in a campus investment club, and has been selected for internships with two major corporations.
