President, student-athlete join CouncilThe Division III Management Council has new members in positions allocated for a president and a student-athlete.
Lisa Marsh Ryerson, president at Wells, and Erin Wojtkun, a soccer student-athlete at Christopher Newport, are new members of the 19-member Council. Division III allocates two positions on the governing body to presidents and two positions to representatives of the Division III Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
Ryerson will complete the unexpired term of LaGrange President Stuart Gulley, who is leaving the school to become president of Woodward Academy in Atlanta. She will be eligible for reappointment to a full term in January 2011.
Wojtkun, a senior at Christopher Newport, replaces Ashley Snell of Rivier, who resigned as a SAAC member.
Ryerson became the 17th president of Wells and first alumnus selected for the post in 1995. The historically women’s institution began admitting male students in 2005.
Other hallmarks of her tenure include the creation of an experiential learning program seeking to connect the liberal arts with life; construction of a new science facility and refurbishment of other buildings; and development of a campus plan dedicated to excellence across the curriculum.
Wojtkun majored in psychology and elementary education at Christopher Newport, where she was a four-year starter as goalkeeper for the soccer squad. She has served on the Division III SAAC since 2007.
The recipient of USA South Athletic Conference athletics and academic honors, Wojtkun has studied abroad at Oxford’s Harris Manchester College.
Ryerson joins Jack Ohle of Gustavus Adolphus as presidents serving on the Management Council, and Wojtkun joins Issac Stein, a tennis student-athlete at Washington U. in St. Louis, as SAAC representatives.
