Meredith rowdy after 'Pennies' winThe student-athlete advisory committee at Meredith recently celebrated its win in this year’s USA South Pennies for a Purpose campaign in raucous fashion – by pushing the college’s president into a pool and throwing a pie in the face of a faculty member.
It also donated more than $2,300 to the Kay Yow Cancer Fund. Those were the proceeds at Meredith from the annual competition among USA South member schools to collect loose change for donations to charitable organizations.
During the Meredith’s SAAC’s campaign, President Maureen Hartford agreed to allow herself to be pushed into the college’s pool if the group raised $1,500. In addition, a faculty member consented to take a pie in the face if the campaign topped $1,000.
The campus celebrated the fund-raiser during its recent “reading day” off from classes.
Overall, league schools collected more than $4,300. Each school’s SAAC donated proceed from its campus drive to an organization of its choice.
USA South annually conducts two competitions involving campus student-athlete advisory committees. It also sponsors a “Cans Across the Conference” food drive in the fall.
