Division III rewind

Following is a summary of Division III news from the week of November 9-13.
- The Division III Presidents Council is beginning to share its recently adopted strategic positioning platform with a variety of groups as it moves toward a formal unveiling of the new tool for sharpening the division’s identity.
- Richard Phillips, a former basketball student-athlete at Massachusetts Maritime who offered himself as a hostage to protect his ship and crew from pirates, and Roxana Saberi, a journalist and former Concordia-Moorhead soccer player who was jailed for 100 days in Iran, have been chosen as recipients of the 2010 NCAA Award of Valor. Both are Division III alumni.
- The University of New Orleans announced it is exploring reclassification from its current Division I status to Division III, effective with the 2010-11 academic year.
- Crown played two consecutive football games in which The Storm and their opponents combined for at least 130 points.
- The Wooster men’s basketball team hosted Division I Kent State in an exhibition game to raise money for a memorial fund for the son of Wooster assistant coach Doug Cline.
- Augustana (Illinois) will sponsor a varsity women’s lacrosse program beginning during the 2010-11 school year.
- Nominations are being sought for a January 2010 vacancy on the Division III Championships Committee.
