Following is a summary of Division III news from the week of July 20-24.
- Division III institutions now are free to use such media as Facebook and Twitter to publicize game results and other athletics news without worrying whether prospective student-athletes are receiving those “electronically transmitted” messages, provided the communication meets some new objective guidelines established by the Division III Management Council.
- Fall and spring nontraditional seasons would be placed on the same footing and end five work days before the beginning of an institution’s final exams under one of two legislative proposals forwarded to the Division III Presidents Council for possible sponsorship at the 2010 Convention.
- Centenary (Louisiana) will reclassify from Division I to Division III when its two-year commitment to the Summit League expires.
- More than one-third of Division III’s 42 multisport conferences now are led by commissioners who have a sports information background.
- Brooks Royer, a baseball student-athlete at Rhodes, joined the Division III Management Council this week as one of two representatives of the Division III Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
