Following is a summary of Division III news from the week of June 1-5.
- NCAA membership dues for 2009-10 have been suspended as part of an NCAA national office effort to relieve fiscal pressure on member schools during an economic downturn affecting all of higher education.
- The Centennial Conference announced plans to implement sport-specific policies governing travel-squad size and to begin fall sports competition later than permitted by Division III, as part of cost-containment measures.
- Williams captured its fourth straight title at the Division III Women’s Rowing Championships.
- Hope averaged 1,269 fans per game to lead Division III in women’s basketball attendance for 2008-09, while the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference led conferences in attendance.
- Thomas More will sponsor men’s and women’s track and field as a varsity sport beginning in 2010 after the teams compete during the coming year at the club level.
- Wabash junior Emmanuel ”Eman” Aouad participated in the Division III Men’s Outdoor Track and Field Championships, then traveled to Washington, D.C., to cheer his brother Kennyi on to a seventh-place finish in the Scripps National Spelling Bee before a national television audience.
- Nominations are being sought for a September 2009 vacancy on the Division III Women’s Tennis Committee.
