It’s not quite a single-game scoring record, but after a 69-63 victory Saturday, perhaps Crown has claimed the distinction of being involved in the most consecutive football games in which opponents combined for at least 130 points.

Crown’s and Eureka’s football teams combined for 132 points during regulation play in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference matchup, with Crown claiming the win on a touchdown with 14 seconds left to play.

It was the second straight week that Crown and an opponent combined for at least 130 points. MacMurray beat The Storm, 68-62, in a one-overtime UMAC game October 31 at the Metrodome in Minneapolis.

The record for combined points (138) in a regulation game was set a year ago in an Eastern College Athletic Conference postseason bowl game when Brockport State beat Hartwick, 70-68. Hartwick also is part of the combined scoring record for an overtime game with its 72-70 win over Utica in 2007.

While they didn’t claim the combined scoring record, Crown and Eureka did become the first Division III football teams to combine for more than 1,400 yards of total offense in a game. Eureka gained 744 yards on 84 plays and Crown gained 686 yards on 96 plays for a total of 1,430 yards, beating the 16-year-old mark of 1,395 yards in a game between Occidental and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps.

It was Crown quarterback Adam Hayes’ 31-yard pass to receiver Robert Yang that not only pushed the teams over the 1,400-yard mark but also capped an 81-yard drive beginning with 1:08 left the game for Crown’s winning score.

The game featured 10 lead changes and five ties during three hours and 39 minutes of play.
