Two sports information directors at Division III institutions are receiving major awards of recognition during this week’s College Sports Information Directors of America convention in San Antonio.

Kennan Timm of Wisconsin-Oshkosh is this year’s recipient of the Warren Berg Award, presented annually to an SID from CoSIDA’s college division for outstanding contributions to the profession. Jim Seavey of Massachusetts Maritime will receive the annual Lester Jordan Award for service to the organization’s Academic All-America program and promotion of the ideals of being a student-athlete.

Both will be honored during a luncheon Wednesday.

Timm is the 25th recipient of the Berg Award, named for the longtime Luther SID who served as the first CoSIDA college division president. He just completed his 27th year in sports information, including a stint as SID at Wisconsin-La Crosse before moving to Wisconsin-Oshkosh in 1985.

He has been host media relations director for 18 Division III championship events in six sports, including simultaneous national championships in 2007 in the sports of baseball and in track and field.

Timm also has duties in athletics administration at the school and has organized and chaired three major fund-raising events, which combined raised more than $200,000 for the school.

Seavey, who also serves as director of media relations for the Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference, is completing his first year at Massachusetts Maritime after serving for a combined 21 years at Loras, Nichols, Merrimack, Massachusetts-Lowell and Stonehill.

He is the fourth Division III sports information director to receive the award, named for the longtime Southern Methodist SID who founded the Academic All-America program in 1952.

Seavey has served for 18 years on CoSIDA’s Academic All-America Committee and is completing a three-year stint on the organization’s board of directors. He also served during 2004-05 as the 50th president of the Eastern College Athletic Conference Sports Information Directors Association.
