Campus closure impacts Babson athleticsBabson postponed home and road contests in at least five sports beginning Sunday after the school’s campus in Wellesley, Massachusetts, was closed for an outbreak of illness believed to be caused by the norovirus.
All athletics events through Wednesday were postponed as nearly 120 cases of the illness were reported to the school’s health services through Sunday. Teams also were instructed by officials not to meet for practices as the school discouraged students from gathering in groups.
The closure of the campus resulted in postponement of baseball games today at Curry and at home Wednesday against Johnson & Wales; softball games Sunday against Endicott and Emerson and Wednesday against Wellesley; a women’s lacrosse match today at Amherst; a women’s tennis match against Brandeis, and a men’s tennis match Wednesday at Brandeis.
A men’s lacrosse match scheduled at Massachusetts Maritime Saturday afternoon, before Babson’s campus was closed, also was postponed.
Babson voluntarily closed its campus Saturday evening after consulting with the Wellesley Board of Health. All meetings and events scheduled during the school’s closure were canceled or postponed. Classes are scheduled to resume Wednesday morning.
The school’s athletics Web site reported that make-up dates for postponed contests will be posted as they become available.
