Teachers join athletes in Adams State recognitionAdams State is honoring student-athlete academic achievement in a way that combines the accolades with on-campus community engagement.
A total of 119 Adams State student-athletes have been named to the Athletic Director's Honor Roll for their accomplishments in the classroom during the 2008 fall semester. The group, which includes all student athletes who achieved a 3.0 or higher grade-point average during the semester, will be recognized at the Grizzlies’ second annual Academic Night to be held in conjunction with the men’s and women’s basketball games against Mesa State February 6.
The honorees will join 122 student-athletes who achieved the honor during the 2008 spring semester – and all of them will invite their favorite professors to accompany them onto the court to be recognized. The attending professors, their families and the award-winning student-athletes will watch both the women’s and men’s games together.
School officials say the event bridges athletics with the on-campus community and gives faculty members an insider’s look into their student-athletes’ athletics pursuits. It’s also an opportunity for students and teachers to get to know each other better.
The football team led all of the programs with 34 selections to the Honor Roll for the fall semester. The men’s cross country and track and field program had 21 picks while the soccer team led all women’s programs with 17 selections.
