Metropolitan State will partner with fellow Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference schools Colorado School of Mines, Colorado Christian and Regis University for Miles for Myles, a benefit for cancer research in honor of the late NCAA President Myles Brand.

The four RMAC institutions will host a three-mile run/walk November 8 on the Metro State campus.

“We’re really pleased that our RMAC partners wanted to join us for this great cause,” Athletics Director Joan McDermott said. “We believe it is a great opportunity to unite our drive to benefit cancer research.”

The benefit will end before the RMAC women’s soccer tournament championship game, which will be played at noon at Metro State.

Miles for Myles is an initiative designed to perpetuate Brand’s legacy of leadership and to carry on with his fight against pancreatic cancer. Developed by the National Association of Basketball Coaches and partnering with the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association, the NCAA and the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics, Miles for Myles provides an opportunity for the collegiate athletics community to raise awareness and contribute funds for cancer research, specifically in the area of pancreatic cancer.

“As a champion of the student-athlete’s well-being, and a tireless advocate for the educational experience of intercollegiate athletics, I can’t think of a more fitting event to honor Dr. Brand,” said Metro State President Stephen Jordan, who also chairs the Division II Presidents Council.
