Marcil to leave Sunshine State postMike Marcil, commissioner of the Sunshine State Conference, will be leaving his position June 30 to become vice president of development at his alma mater Creighton Prep High School in Omaha, Nebraska.
Marcil has served as commissioner of the SSC since July 2004. Marcil, who formerly chaired the Division II Management Council, currently is president of the Division II Conference Commissioners Association.
“It has been an honor for me to serve as the SSC commissioner,” Marcil said. “With Sunshine State Conference institutions having finished No. 1 in the country the past two years in the NCAA Division II Academic Success Rate rankings and, at the same time, winning several NCAA Division II national championships, the SSC truly is a model NCAA athletic conference.”
SSC President Anthony J. Catanese, president of Florida Tech, said that a national search for Marcil’s successor would begin soon.
“The entire conference appreciates all of the efforts by Mike Marcil over the past several years to help the SSC be the very best academic and athletics conference in the country,” Catanese said.
