Lock Haven’s Kristin Erb has earned the 2009 Honda Sports Award as the Division II female athlete of the year.

Erb, who will be honored at a ceremony at Columbia on June 22, also won the award in 2006 and was nominated in 2007.

This year, the senior pitcher led the Lady Eagles to their second Division II softball national title in four years and earned recognition as the championship’s most outstanding performer. Erb posted a 50-5 record and registered 399 strikeouts on the season. The 50 wins tied the Division II record for victories in a single season. She also established the career wins mark in the division with 168 wins.

Erb, a four-time National Fastpitch Coaches Association first team all-American and the 2009 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Central Pitcher of the Year, signed a professional contract to play with the National Pro Fastpitch’s Philadelphia Force.

“The Honda Sports Award is an amazing accomplishment in women’s sports at the college level,” Erb said. “Not only are you the best in your sport, you’re the best in all the women’s sports in your division. I’m very proud to have received it not only once, but twice in my career. Winning this award shows that all my hard work and dedication has paid off. I couldn’t have done this without the help of my coaches and teammates and I thank them for that.”
