Division II rewindFollowing is a summary of Division II news from the week of April 13-17.
• The Division II Management Council at its April 20-21 meeting will begin considering alternatives proposed by the Legislation Committee about modifications to playing and practice seasons in various sports. The review coincides with a Division II Presidents Council request to align policies with the athletics/academics balance suggested in the division’s strategic-positioning platform.
• The Peach Belt and the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association are examples of conferences that are extending their communication outreach via e-newsletters.
• The MIAA also is realizing some marketing success with “TitleFest,” which is a concerted effort to stage several championships in one locale over an extended period.
• The West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference has announced that Salem International will not be eligible for league postseason competition during 2009-10 because of findings in the school’s NCAA infractions case.
