Division II RewindFollowing is a summary of Division II news for the week of February 23-27.
The Division II Academic Requirements Committee began discussing potential uses for the Academic Performance Census data being collected from Division II institutions. Schools were required to submit data on entering classes of 2006 and 2007, and by this fall the NCAA research staff will have prepared the data to begin informing decision-making on academic policies and eligibility standards.
The ARC also asked the Management Council to sponsor legislation for the 2010 Convention that would specify some of hourly requirements for transfer-student eligibility.
The Division II Membership Committee also met recently and developed processes in which institutions currently reclassifying to Division I could return to Division II expeditiously if desired. The provision also applies to schools that sponsor a single sport at the Division I level but wish to return that sport to Division II.
