Following is a summary of Division II news from the week of August 17-21.

• Division II reached another record contribution total for the Make-A-Wish Foundation in 2008-09, pushing the division’s overall contribution since 2003 past $1 million.
• Brigadier Gen. Sheila Baxter, a former basketball standout at Virginia State and 1976 player of the year in the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association, will be the keynote speaker for Division II delegates at the NCAA Convention on January 15 in Atlanta.
• Jay Jones, NCAA director of academic and membership affairs for Division III, has been selected as commissioner of the Sunshine State Conference, effective September 14.
• Division II’s new conference-grant application process went for a test drive recently when the Planning and Finance Committee reviewed requests from a newly revised submission system. The new approach is designed to align allocations with the division’s strategic-positioning platform and strategic plan.
