Division II rewind
The NCAA News
Following is a summary of Division II news from the week of July 20-24.
- The Division II Management Council forwarded to the Presidents Council a package of proposals that would shorten seasons and reduce contests in eight sports. Among the concepts in the “Life in the Balance” initiative are a later reporting date for fall-sport student-athletes and a dead period for winter-sport student-athletes.
- The Division II Student-Athlete Advisory Committee also discussed the Life in the Balance project at the 13th annual Management Council/SAAC summit July 18-19 in Denver. While student-athletes were reluctant to have the number of contests reduced, they understood the reasons behind the package.
- The Management Council also supported a revised organized-competition rule that includes a year-long grace period after high school graduation during which prospects can participate in organized competition without penalty.
