DII posts Q&A document for Life in the BalanceThe Division II Legislation Committee and national office staff have compiled a comprehensive question-and-answer document to help educate Division II members about the Life in the Balance package headed to the 2010 Convention floor.
The document is the first of two that will be published before the Convention. This first one deals specifically with the four proposals in the Life in the Balance package – new reporting dates for fall sports and accompanying season and game reductions; a seven-day dead period during the winter holiday break; a one-game reduction in basketball; and contest reductions in baseball, softball and golf (Proposal Nos. 2010-5 through 2010-8).
The Life in the Balance package is a presidentially led initiative that seeks to streamline seasons and restore more of the balance that anchors the Division II strategic-positioning platform. The Division II Presidents Council has endorsed all four proposals.
While the package has been well vetted during the year within the governance structure and through various affiliated organizations, the Q&A serves as yet another educational tool to help Division II voting delegates better understand the intent of the package.
“Since the Legislation and Championships Committees have been the entry points for the Life in the Balance package, we have monitored all the questions throughout the development of these proposals and believe this Q&A document is a thorough representation of the kinds of issues the membership might have,” said Legislation Committee chair Ann Martin of Regis (Colorado).
The second Q&A on the remainder of legislative proposals for the 2010 Convention will be available January 6. The Convention’s Division II business session is January 16.
