Coker bids it up for Make-A-Wish
|
Going once, going twice, SOLD!
That phrase echoed through the Timberlake-Lawton Gymnasium on April 2 as the Coker College Student-Athlete Advisory Committee conducted its second annual Athlete Auction for the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
The SAAC, along with the help of the Coker and Hartsville, South Carolina, communities, raised more than $1,600 for Make-A-Wish by auctioning off 17 “pairs” of athletes, two coaches and nine teams to buyers from the Coker and Hartsville communities for various services.
The baseball, women’s soccer and men’s basketball teams were the highest producers, with each going for $200, while a group of soccer players also brought $200.
“The Student-Athlete Advisory Committee leadership did a fantastic job of organizing the student-athlete auction,” said Coker Director of Athletics and SAAC advisor Tim Griggs. “More than 150 Coker student-athletes volunteered their time and energy for the Make-A-Wish cause. This type of effort provides a great deal of pride to all those associated with the college and its athletics programs.”
