Angelo State AD to chair Management CouncilAngelo State Athletics Director Kathleen Brasfield has been elected to chair the Division II Management Council.
Brasfield, who will serve a one-year term, will replace Grand Valley State AD Tim Selgo after the 2010 Convention.
She became Angelo State’s women’s AD in 1982 after four years as head volleyball coach and then was named the overall athletics director in 2004. She retained her coaching duties until 2005.
In her 26 years as head volleyball coach, Brasfield led the Rambelles to 647 wins and retired as one of the top five winningest active coaches in Division II. She also led the Rambelles to seven Lone Star Conference titles, including four consecutive from 1982-85. She chaired the Division II Women’s Volleyball Committee in 2004.
As athletics director, Brasfield has overseen program growth to 12 intercollegiate sports, the most recent additions being baseball in 2005 and women’s golf in 2009. During the 2008-09 academic year, 10 of the 12 teams advanced to postseason play, including eight teams that made regional or national tournament appearances.
Brasfield earned a bachelor’s degree from Hardin-Simmons in 1969 and a master’s from Angelo State in 1980.
