WCC expands access to hoops tournamentsStudents at West Coast Conference member schools will work with the league’s new online initiative WCCTV to provide a behind-the-scenes look at the conference’s men’s and women’s basketball tournaments this weekend.
One student media member from each WCC member school will assist with WCCTV’s “360 All-Access” Web initiative on WCCsports.com. Not only will the student reporters provide coverage of every game in the championships, but also game analysis, highlights, player and coach interviews. Each student will work on exclusive feature stories as well.
“We are excited to be able to provide our fans unprecedented coverage of the WCC Tournament through our new web initiative, WCCTV,” said WCC Commissioner Jamie Zaninovich. “Not only will this provide unparalleled coverage of our premier event, but we are also thrilled to provide the student media members from our membership with the opportunity to showcase their talents and earn valuable experience.”
WCCTV will also stream 10 of the 14 tournament games on WCCsports.com. This is the first time the tournaments will be held at a neutral site: Orleans Arena in Las Vegas. Games begin March 6, with both tournament champions crowned March 9.
“We were so excited when we heard the WCC’s proposal to do something unprecedented with our media students around the league,” said Dan Garrity, director of electronic media studies at Gonzaga. Garrity will serve as the WCCTV’s coordinating producer for the student media.
“I think this shows the best of the WCC; sharing our passion for our discipline with everyone who cares about learning more,” he said. “I give great credit to the WCC for coming up with this idea, and then following through by investing in the eight students who get to take part in this initiative.”
