Three DI coaches earn milestone winsRhode Island women’s volleyball coach Bob Schneck won his 500th match September 12 when the Rams defeated Brown, 3-0.
Schneck is just the 26th Division I coach to reach the 500-win milestone. In his 28 seasons at Rhode Island, he has coached in three NCAA championship tournaments and 18 Atlantic 10 Conference tournaments, with 11 trips to the conference finals. The Rams are 3-5 so far in 2009.
Also, Missouri State’s Melissa Stokes coached her 300th volleyball victory September 11 when the Bears beat Delaware, 3-1. Stokes is the third Missouri Valley Conference coach to reach 300 wins at a conference school. She reached the milestone in 437 total matches for a .686 winning percentage. Missouri State is 7-4.
Meanwhile, Loyola Marymount men’s soccer coach Paul Krumpe earned his 100th victory September 13 when the Lions downed UC Santa Barbara, 2-1. Krumpe, in his 12th year at Loyola Marymount, became the 12th active West Coast Conference coach to reach the century mark.
The Lions’ win over the sixth-ranked Gauchos also maintained the team’s streak of beating a ranked opponent at least once in every year this decade. The Lions are 3-1.
