Southern Conference honors FARThe Southern Conference established a graduate scholarship in memory of William Moore, a former faculty athletics representative at College of Charleston and former president of the Southern Conference. Moore died March 25 after a sudden illness.
The scholarship, sponsored by Sharp Business Systems, will go to a male or female Southern Conference student-athlete for postgraduate studies. The first winner will be announced May 27 at the conference’s honors dinner.
“We’re grateful to the people at Sharp for their support of this scholarship, which is a fitting tribute to Bill Moore,” said Southern Conference Commissioner John Iamarino. “He was a true advocate for the student-athletes of the Southern Conference, and this award will remind us of his hard work on their behalf.”
Moore, who also served as the announcer at College of Charleston’s men’s basketball games, was active in conference governance, supporting the growth of television and video streaming efforts as a member of the league’s executive committee.
The William V. Moore Graduate Scholarship will be awarded annually.
