The Southeastern Conference has launched a Web site designed to promote the academic programs of SEC member schools.

The SEC Academic Network is a joint venture of the conference, ESPN and SEC member universities.

ESPN Digital Media and Origin Digital will help develop the Web site, which will feature content from every institution spotlighting research, innovation, economic development, community partnerships, civic engagement and service.

Each institution will have its own page on the site, arranged by topic. The site is intended to provide a one-stop shop for fans to learn about SEC academics through video features and other media.

“Our commitment to highlight the accomplishments of SEC members’ academic programs was a key component of our new television agreements,” said SEC Commissioner Mike Slive. “We are grateful to ESPN for providing the technology, expertise and tools they use in sports media to our institutions in support of academic pursuits.”

The Academic Network is part of the SEC’s 15-year, broadcast-rights agreement with ESPN, announced in August 2008. The agreement also calls for additional commitment to academics on ESPN’s part through the production of annual Campus Connection telecasts at each SEC school, produced in part by students and featuring the academic accomplishments of SEC student-athletes.
