Following is a summary of Division I news from the week of December 14-18.
Several more institutions hired minority head football coaches, including Kansas with Turner Gill and Richmond with Latrell Scott. There are now 20 ethnic minority head football coaches at non-historically black colleges and universities in Division I.
The Student-Athlete Advisory Committee opposes the deregulation of telephone calls to recruits. It also opposes a series of proposals that would modify the nonchampionship competition segment of several sports. SAAC chair Matt Baysinger explains the group’s position on several key proposals in the 2009-10 legislative cycle.
