The following is a summary of Division I news from the week of September 21-25.
- The Division I Championships Cabinet began a review of playing-and-practice-season policies and championships regulations that may result in reduced operating costs. The cabinet is examining foreign tours, adjustments in preseason schedules and championship sites and brackets.
- The Division I Legislative Council will consider several amateurism and playing-and-practice-season legislative proposals at its October meeting in Indianapolis, including one modifying the women’s basketball season and another expanding the length of the football season – but not the number of games.
- The Sun Belt Conference will require students and coaches in the league to participate in a sportsmanship examination prior to competition in conference championships.
- The NCAA announced preliminary-round site information for track and field and men’s basketball.
