Following is a summary of Division I news from the week of October 12-16.
- In an effort to simplify a recruiting bylaw that prompts changes every legislative cycle, the Division I Recruiting Cabinet will embark on a comprehensive review of the recruiting model. The cabinet will keep competitive equity, cost containment, monitoring and enforcement and the well-being of coaches, administrators and student-athletes in mind when composing legislative proposals.
- The Division I Legislative Council will begin its initial review of legislation in the 2009-10 cycle when it meets October 19-20 in Indianapolis. Among the proposals the Council will examine are several dealing with noncoaching personnel, recruiting, foreign tours and the creation of sand volleyball.
- The Amateurism Cabinet amended a proposal in the legislative cycle that would allow prospects to compete on teams with professionals to exclude men’s ice hockey prospects.
