Division I Board welcomes new membersThe Division I Board of Directors approved the appointment of three new presidents: Judy Genshaft of South Florida, William Meehan of Jacksonville State and William Harvey of Hampton.
Genshaft accepted the presidency at South Florida in 2000 after holding several administrative positions at Albany and Ohio State. Since Genshaft assumed the presidency, student enrollment, graduates, faculty and staff numbers and annual fund-raising have grown. She holds degrees from Kent State and Wisconsin.
Meehan, a Jacksonville State graduate, has served in numerous capacities at the institution since 1977. His background is in medicine, and he also served in several academic affairs capacities. He became president in 1999, with a goal of using technology in higher education, including distance learning. Meehan holds two biology degrees from Jacksonville State and a doctorate from Alabama.
Harvey has served as president at Hampton since 1978, overseeing increases in student enrollment, academic programs offered and average SAT scores for entering freshman. Before taking over as president, Harvey served three years in the Army. He also worked at Harvard, Fisk and Tuskegee. He holds degrees from Talladega College and Harvard.
