Conference USA announces bowl agreementsConference USA announced commitments with seven bowl games: AutoZone Liberty Bowl, Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl, EagleBank Bowl, R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl, Sheraton Hawaii Bowl, St. Petersburg Bowl and the Dallas Football Classic. The announcement includes commitments through 2013.
The partnerships pair Conference USA teams with teams from the Mountain West, Sun Belt, Western Athletic, Atlantic Coast and Big East Conferences.
Since partnering with the Liberty Bowl in 1996, Conference USA has sent its regular-season champion to the game, earning an 8-6 record against opponents. The conference has sent a team to the New Orleans Bowl since 2002, the Hawaii Bowl six of the last eight years and the Armed Forces Bowl five of the last six years.
Conference USA could qualify for the Bowl Championship Series if its champion is ranked in the final top 12 or in the top 16 and ranked higher than a team that receives automatic qualification.
“Having the right mix of bowl games is important to every conference,” said Commissioner Britton Banowsky. “When we began developing our new bowl agreements we wanted three things: great destinations, quality opponents and increased revenues. We believe our line-up for 2010-13 delivers in every way.”
