Central Michigan to expand facilitiesCentral Michigan announced plans to build a new multi-purpose facility that will include practice facilities for basketball and wrestling and an expanded fitness center, all attached to the current Rose Center arena. Construction on the $21 million project is set to begin next month.
Renovations include improved seating, air conditioning, enhanced lighting, improved sound system, permanent concessions, increased restrooms and event production and support areas. The upgrades are expected to attract community groups and campus organizations for events, concerts and other activities.
The addition of a 4,000-square-foot lobby area will provide a visible entry point and an area to host events. The project is set to be complete in October 2010.
“This is a very exciting time in the history of Chippewa athletics,” said Athletics Director Dave Heeke. “From an athletics standpoint, we will now have a competition facility that provides the amenities that fans expect when attending a major college sporting event. The environment will be absolutely fantastic for both fans and competitors alike.
“The new events center will not only serve the needs of athletics teams but will enhance the entire campus community, providing the necessary flexibility to host a multitude of events that will add to the overall campus experience here at CMU.”
