Big Monday game earns big ratingESPN is reporting that Monday’s Division I women’s basketball matchup in which No. 2 Oklahoma downed No. 17 Tennessee garnered a 1.0 rating, making it the highest-rated women’s “Big Monday” telecast in history.
The contest on ESPN2 was viewed by an average of 931,444 households, the most-viewed matchup in the history of the prime-time, game-of-the-week series.
The 80-70 Sooner win was Oklahoma’s 15th straight but the first in four tries over the Lady Vols and stalled Tennessee coach Pat Summitt’s quest for her 1,000th career victory. Summitt’s team takes the floor Thursday night at home against Southeastern Conference rival Georgia.
The Big Monday game also featured the end of Oklahoma all-American Courtney Paris’ streak of double-doubles at 112. Paris, who scored nine points and grabbed 12 rebounds, fouled out of the game with under a minute to play.
