The Women's Basketball Coaches Association is hosting its seventh annual “So You Want to be a Coach” program, a two-and-a-half day workshop held in conjunction with the WBCA convention April 3-7 in St. Louis.

More than 50 assistants and graduates will participate in this year’s program to increase the number of minorities in the coaching profession by providing a workshop based on educational and professional principles to help those interested in the field.

The coaching lessons help identify, recruit and retain minority women in coaching. Participants also have the opportunity to meet and learn from high-level professionals such as Washington assistant coach Fred Applin, Marist assistant coach Keila Whittington, St. Louis head coach Shimmy Gray-Miller and others.

Potential candidates must have exhausted their final year of basketball eligibility at a four-year institution or have graduated within the past year. In addition, the candidate’s head coach must nominate them and be an active WBCA member. Participants are selected based on academics, contributions to women's basketball on and off the court, professional resume and a written recommendation from the head coach.
