The NCAA Women’s Rowing Committees have selected Washington State to host the 2010 Divisions I, II and III Women’s Rowing Championships at the Sacramento State Aquatic Center in Gold River, California, May 28-30.

This will mark the sixth time the event will be held at the Sacramento State Aquatic Center, which is widely regarded as one of the top facilities of its kind in the world. The inaugural NCAA Women’s Rowing Championship was held there in 1997. It also served as the championship site in 1999, 2004, 2005 and 2008.

“The committees are excited about going back to the Sacramento State Aquatic Center,” said Tom Bold, chair of the Division I Women’s Rowing Committee and associate director of athletics at Brown. “It is without a doubt one of the top venues anywhere and will provide our student-athletes with a tremendous experience. We know the staffs at Washington State and the aquatic center will make sure this is a first-class event and a true championship experience for everyone involved.”

Washington State has a history of hosting NCAA championships, as this is the 18th championship event hosted by the Cougars in the last half century, and the first in rowing.

“Washington State has a great working relationship with the NCAA, having hosted a number of  championship events in the past, and we are excited to host the 2010 rowing championships,” said Anne McCoy, senior associate athletics director at Washington State. “The Sacramento State Aquatic Center is a wonderful venue for both competitors and fans, and providing everyone with a championship-caliber event is our top priority.”
