The Women’s Basketball Coaches Association has appointed Arizona State’s Charli Turner-Thorne as its new vice president. Turner-Thorne takes over for Connecticut’s Geno Auriemma, who becomes WBCA president in August.

The WBCA also named Carol Owens of Northern Illinois to the executive committee as secretary. She assumes the position left by Kansas’ Bonnie Henrickson.

Joining the board of directors in 2009 are assistant coaches Jose Mori of Indiana and Minnesota’s Barbara Smith.

Six board members were either reappointed or re-elected: Jennifer Rizzotti of Hartford, California’s Joanne Boyle, LaVonda Wagner of Oregon State, Tom Collen of Arkansas, Pam Ruder of Southwestern (Texas) and Russ Davis of Vanguard.

Bowling Green’s Curt Miller and Beth Burns of San Diego State were appointed to the board to fill positions left by Owens and Turner-Thorne.

The remaining members of the WBCA Executive Committee are Terri Mitchell of Marquette (treasurer), Ruder, Sherri Coale of Oklahoma and Carolyn Campbell-McGovern of the Ivy Group.

Other members of the WBCA board are Sue Semrau of Florida State, Penn State’s Coquese Washington, Gie Parsons of Clarion, Carmen Dolfo of Western Washington, Ohio Wesleyan’s Nan Carney-DeBord, Michael Landers of Baton Rouge (Louisiana) Community College, Kathy Richey-Walton of Southwest DeKalb (Georgia) High School, Tulsa’s Charlene Thomas Swinson, Notre Dame’s Muffet McGraw, Sue Ramsey of Ashland, Worcester State’s Karen Tessmer, America East Commissioner Patrick Nero and WNBA President Donna Orender.
