The transition of the NCAA Injury Surveillance System to the Datalys Center for Research and Prevention is underway. Athletic trainers at NCAA institutions can register their institutions online and find out more information about the new program.

Datalys will take over the day-to-day management of the NCAA injury surveillance program in the 2009-2010 academic year. Datalys will be launching a free, electronic injury surveillance tool aimed at streamlining data collection for institutions that are committed to supporting the NCAA’s injury surveillance and student-athlete health and safety programs.

The tool will include functionality for all NCAA sports, rosters, calendar, injury reporting and injury case printing. One important functional change will be a simplified recording process that should help reduce data-entry time.

Datalys will be publishing a data-transmission standard called “Export Engine” that will allow athletic trainers to transfer injury surveillance data directly from their existing commercial athletic training facility software applications. This should be ready by March 15.

“We want this system to stand as its own entity,” said Datalys Executive Director Troy Hege. “The way this is set up, we can also help other interested parties like academic researchers. For example, we would be a great partner for an academic researcher who wants to do research on women’s anterior cruciate ligament tears in soccer.”
