Shippensburg University of Pennsylvania Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Roberta Page has been hired as a director of championships at the NCAA national office. Page will begin her new duties in June.

Page, who has served as AD at Shippensburg since June 2003, fills a position vacated by Wayne Burrow, who left the Association in February. Among championships in all divisions that Page will oversee are those in track and field, swimming and diving, gymnastics, and tennis. She also will serve as the primary liaison to the Division II Championships Committee.

“I am very excited about the opportunity to work with championships at the NCAA,” Page said. “I have the utmost respect for the individuals who work at the national office and am truly excited to join this outstanding team. I am equally excited to work with the membership, as our common goal is to make the student-athlete experience a positive one.”

Page joined Shippensburg athletics in January 2000 as associate director of athletics and then served as interim athletics director from December 2001 until June 2003 when she was named AD on a permanent basis. In addition to supervising a staff of more than 60, Page was responsible for all operations, budgets, events and external activities for the athletics program.

Shippensburg has been a frequent host of NCAA championship competition under Page’s direction, and NCAA Senior Vice President of Championships Joni Comstock noted Page’s commitment to enhancing the student-athlete experience.

“Roberta has a keen understanding of what it takes to provide student-athletes with a meaningful and rewarding postseason experience,” Comstock said. “As a former coach and administrator herself, she is very aware of the membership’s expectations to deliver a positive experience for student-athletes and other key constituents.”

Page also has been involved in NCAA governance, having been a member of and eventually chairing the Division II Management Council. She also was a member of the Division II Planning and Finance Committee. Earlier this month, Page had become the first female to be appointed as a member of the Division II Football Committee. She previously had served as a member of the Division II Men’s and Women’s Track and Field Committee.

“Shippensburg University has always supported my involvement with the NCAA committee structure and has paved the way for me to take on this new professional opportunity,” Page said. “My time at SU has allowed me to be surrounded by some of the best coaches, administrators, and more importantly, student-athletes. Ship will always be a special place for me and my family, and one I will always consider home.”

Shippensburg President Bill Ruud praised Page for her leadership of the university’s athletics program. “During her tenure, Roberta brought the athletics program at Ship to new levels of success, both on the athletics fields and in the classroom. Thanks to her leadership and commitment, our student-athletes have not only won national championships but they have earned numerous academic honors. Their success is a testament to the high standards she set for them, and for herself. She will be missed by her many friends and colleagues.”

A native of Greensburg, Pennsylvania, Page played basketball and softball at Slippery Rock where she graduated in 1988 as a physical education major with a minor in sports management.

She then taught health and physical education and served as assistant track coach (1989-95) and assistant varsity and head junior varsity basketball coach (1989-94) at Chambersburg High School. She also was head women’s volleyball coach at Wilson College (1992-94).

In August 1995, Page moved to Gettysburg High School where she was director of athletics and assistant principal. In fall 1998 she went to South Middleton School District where she was the director of athletics and assistant principal.

Page earned two master’s degrees from McDaniel College in athletics administration and educational administration with a concentration on higher education. She earned a doctoral degree in educational leadership from Duquesne.
