NCAA President Myles Brand will receive three significant honors during the next two months.

Brand, who is battling pancreatic cancer, will be honored in absentia May 16 with an honorary doctor of humane letters degree from Franklin & Marshall College. The institution will provide similar recognition to four others, including Gen. Colin Powell, former U.S. secretary of state.

The next day, Brand will join President Obama, former Purdue President Steve Beering and six others in receiving honorary degrees from the University of Notre Dame.

In June, Brand − along with golfing great Jack Nicklaus and his wife Barbara − will receive the Pathfinder award for contributions to youth sports. The Pathfinder is presented annually by the Youthlinks Indiana Charity Golf Tournament, which is sponsored by the Indiana Sports Corporation and the Indiana Black Expo.

Last month, Brand was presented with an honorary doctorate from Indiana University, Bloomington, where he served as president before joining the Association in 2003.
